For all the Overwatch lovers, a couple of days ago, Blizzard Entertainment published excellent news. If you played the game and felt terrible because you can’t play with your friends using a PC or a different console, those days are over.

According to the official statement, Overwatch developers started working on cross-platform possibilities.

Ever since the official release in 2015, players were dissatisfied with this flaw. While Fortnite, Minecraft, and other gamers can enjoy themselves together, Overwatch players could play only with users of the same gaming device.

Luckily, those days are over.

All we know about Overwatch cross-platform

Even though there is no official date for the Overwatch cross-play, it’s expected that everything will be solved by the end of the year. If you have a PC, you already have a Battle.net account. However, all the console users will need to create one if they want to play the game cross-platform.

All the console users (Xbox, PSN, Nintendo) will need to create a Battle.net account and link it to their console. Blizzard will give all those who create an account by the end of the year a new Golden Loot Box to celebrate, as a sign of appreciation.

How to create a Battle.net account and link it to your console?

Alright, if you are using a console so far, you haven’t had a chance to create a Battle.net account. Simply, you didn’t need it. When you do, we’ve made a short guide for you on how to create it and link it to your console so you can start cross-play.

How to create an account?

In order to create a Battle.net account, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to https://us.shop.battle.net/en-us
  2. Create a free account

  1. Once you do, navigate to Account Settings

3
  1. Log in using your Battle.net credentials
  2. You will receive an in-game message notifying you that you successfully linked your account and console

That would be it, and now you are ready to play Overwatch cross-platform.

Note: If you have a PC and already have a Battle.net account, as soon as cross-play is available, you will be able to play without any pre-operations.

What you need to know

If you are switching from one gaming platform to another, for example, from Nintendo to PC, your game won’t be saved and transferred. While you will be able to play cross-platform on both devices, you won’t be able to continue where you previously stopped. Practically, you will need to start your account from zero.

Also, if you use the Battle.net account on multiple devices, you will receive a Golden Loot Box as a gift on every one of them. Since the game is not transferrable, we find it fair.

All the ranks and stats won’t be reset by implementing the cross-play option. So, if you had a high score and wish to keep it, you still have your chance. Also, the board with 500 top players will remain separate for PC players, cross-play enabled console players and cross-play disabled cross players.

If you add a friend through your Battle.net account, he will remain a friend on all consoles where this account is in use. If, however, you want to add someone on a specific console, you need to do it directly through the social feature of the console.

Regarding banks, if your game account is blocked on one platform, you can keep playing on another platform without any blocks. Since the transfer of data is not possible, blocks are not transferring as well.

Cross-play will be enabled for all game modes except Competitive games. These players will be split into two pools depending on the platform they are using – PC or console. Since PC users have a huge advantage using keyboard and mouse, competition wouldn’t be fair.
