I was talking with my friend, who works as a tech support agent for the college football team I am on. He noted that he doesn’t get to play on the football team during the season because he has school, and he wanted to ask me, “what kind of job do you have?”. I responded that I’m a computer programmer and a former pro football player. I think I answered my own question.

This isn’t to say that a couple years of college football doesn’t put into question the value of the job you’ve got. At the end of the day, whether you are a football player or a software developer, you are ultimately a product of the environment you grew up in. You can be a person with an extraordinary aptitude for a specific job, and a lot of people who are good at it don’t necessarily have a lot of other work experience.
I think it is important to note that in all my posts about software developers, I talk about the skills that we need to have, and the things that we can do to help our team accomplish these skills. But I think the biggest problem with software developers is that we are often so quick to write the software that we dont really get to talk about the skills that we learned at work. At the end of the day, what you do as a developer is not just about coding a program.
In my interview with joe, I talked a bit about how our software development team has always been around a few people with a great pedigree for software development. I also talked about how you have to be a certain kind of person to succeed, because you have to know how to be a good manager, a good team player, and a good team member, and so many other things.

I was glad joe asked me about my day because I didn’t really have anything to say about my day. I think the reason is that it’s important for developers to be good at interviewing, because it’s really hard to be a great developer if you can’t think of any interesting things to ask about.
I think developers usually ask a lot of questions that are obvious but not obvious enough for a developer to know what the developer is thinking. You can get some of the worst developers in the business if you ask about their hobbies, and then its easy to think that the developer is just looking for a flippant way to say something. But you can be a really good developer without being a fool.
